Sterile Processing Technicians play a vital role in preventing cross contamination and infection, by ensuring that medical supplies are properly cleaned and sterilized, processed, stored, and distributed; among other duties.
This program is designed to teach students how to clean and decontaminate, inspect, assemble, process, and sterilize surgical instruments and trays; distribute sterilized items and documentation, maintain documentation required for quality control, and other duties related to sterile processing. Students who successfully complete this program will receive a Certificate of Completion from the school, as well as have the knowledge and be prepared to take the HSPA Examination to become Certified Registered Central Service Technicians (CRCST).
NOTE: While all successful graduates of this program with receive a Certificate of Completion from the school, HSPA requires 400 hours of hands-on training to meet their certification requirement. If a student elects to take the HSPA exam before obtaining the documented 400 hours of hands-on training, and passes the test, their HSPA certificate will be provisional and good for 6 months max while they work on obtaining the 400 hours of hands-on training.
